Destination Canada inspires the world to visit Canada in a breakthrough year. The country celebrated its 150th birthday, broke records in visitation, and is now leading the pack among top destinations.
Destination Canada’s 2017 Annual Report: Breaking Through shines a light on the incredible year for Destination Canada and its partners.
These successes were due in part by the innovative strategies we built to attract high-yield travellers in our core markets. We also moved forward on a multi-year agreement with our Team Canada partners – provinces, territories, and major cities and resorts – to invest and market internationally in an aligned fashion.
“Canada’s successes are a culmination of collaboration, partnership and teamwork, and together with the industry, we have a lot to be proud of. The successes of this past year are proof that better alignment and cooperation leads to stronger results,” says Ben Cowan-Dewar, Chairperson of Destination Canada’s Board of Directors.
Together, we welcomed 1.39M additional visitors, spending over $1.81 billion and supporting 13,800 jobs. It’s clear that tourism is an economic driver and no surprise that it’s Canada’s largest ever service export.
